I am grateful for malted milk balls.
Whenever I talk to someone about gratitude, ( and as early as 15 years ago when we started this website I always bring up malted milk balls. The response is usually a chuckle, (though yesterday when I said that the person thanked me, grateful that I reminded her of a long-forgotten treat!). But I am totally serious. Not only because I love them—in all flavors, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, crème brulee, I don’t discriminate, but because of what they have come to represent for me.
First, because, unlike the malted milk ball that broke my front tooth! all my teeth are in great shape now. Although I don’t bite into them head on like David does, all my other teeth seem up to the task. With no discomfort. One’s good health and freedom from pain, always must be at the top of anyone’s gratitude list.
Second, my gratitude for being able to afford to buy them whenever I have a craving. And let me tell you, I have these cravings often! And when David surprises me with a bag from the chocolatier near us, I give thanks for the malted milk balls, and even more for David.
And third, because malted milk balls make other people happy as well. When a dear friend’s mother died, I wanted to send something to cheer her up. What else? Malted milk balls! But I didn’t know what the best place would be online from which to purchase. So, I started doing research, that is buying malted milk balls from ALL OVER the web- a new batch every month or so. Then my friend joined in. Buying them, eating them, rating them. I now have an excel spread sheet of over 25 on-line malted milk ball sellers. And my friend and I will one day turn that research into a peer-reviewed journal article. 😛 Chocolate plus friendship plus research- how can I NOT be grateful?
So if things have you down, and believe me I hear you, treat yourself to some malted milk balls. And give thanks. I mean, how lucky can you get!!!
